I can remember our first year of camps. Ke (a grad student at the time) and myself ran it on the Orono campus and we had 16 campers. That was the whole camp year!
This year, we are set to start our season on Monday (6/29) with 42 weeks of camp stuck into 7 weeks of summer! We've already got 552 campers registered for those weeks and we are running 4 different programs (LEGO Robotics, VEX Robotics, Build Your Own Computers, and the Programming Minecraft camps) in 26 different locations around the state.
We just finished 3 days of staff training, including first aid and heart saver training, as well as a two hour session by the Autism Society of Maine (we welcome all students at our programs), while also covering administration and topic specific training.
It was great and we had 25 staff members at the training, another "largest/biggest" for our camp season.
We look forward to spending the summer with all those campers and to having a great season.
See you at camp, Tom Bickford
