That's right, only 11 days left. We've got 70 teams coming, 600 students, and expect a total of around 2,000 people to descend on the 13th Annual Maine FIRST LEGO League Championship.
The event is free and open to the public (teams are already registered). So come to visit, stay for a little while or stay for the whole day. We have a great raffle to help support the event and you don't have to be present to win. See what these students engineers have built with their LEGO Robots! Read about how goalie masks have evolved since they were first worn in 1924. Get a feel for how the sport has been changed by craftspeople who work to keep the goalies safe. Read about Elizabeth Graham, the first person to wear a face mask in hockey (it was actually a fencing mask). To Jacques Plante, the first hockey goalie to wear one all the time, starting in 1959 (right after a broken nose he received during a game). Visit the newsletter here to read all about it. We've got some good donations for the raffle so far.
If you would like to donate something cool for this year's raffle, it would be greatly appreciated. Items must not be LEGO competitive toys (sorry no MEGA Blocks) and we reserve the right to return any items that do not fall within the guidelines passed down to us from the national and international offices. But items could be appealing to either the children or the adults present at the event. Winners need not be present to win an item, as long as their name and contact information have been clearly printed on the ticket. December 8th! 72 FIRST LEGO League teams from around Maine, thats almost 600 children 100 coaches 80+ volunteers and 1200 spectators! And none of it is possible without those 80+ volunteers. You could help make this day the best one ever! This event changes lives, gets students learning about the great rewards that can be had while doing the things they LOVE! We need referees, table resetters, judges, raffle ticket sellers, registration folks, runners, and much more. Visit our VOLUNTEER sign in page to let us know you are interested. Only 44 more days until the big event. |
