The highest score on the table top (Performance) part of the competition was a 280 (out of a
possible 400). The Orono Nuclearly Unstable Chimp Monkz also placed well on the Performance
part of the tournament, placing second highest in that and 4th highest overall (not reflected above
as they were ineligible to win any awards as this was their second tournament of the season.
We had about 200 children competing and 4-500 parents, volunteers, and spectators at the event.
While it ran a little long, the tournament went well and we hope all the participants enjoyed
themselves.

A great big thanks to the 350 people that came to the event at the Maine Maritime
Academy. Thanks to Jeff Wright and Amy Gutow at MMA for their tireless support
preparing for the event and for helping out at the event. Thanks to all the students
from the Maine School for Science and Mathematics who came down and
volunteered. Also to the Mid-Coast School of Technology for sending us their High
School FIRST Robotics team. Thanks to all the volunteers, particularly all the
support from my wife Gail Bickford without which there might not be a FIRST LEGO
League in Maine.

UPDATE (September 27, 2005)
Maine Registration is $100 per team per tournament. Teams can register on the MR
Shopping Page, or by mailing PO/check to Maine Robotics.
A team is only eligible to receive awards at the first tournament they attend. First
priority is to give space to teams that are local to their tournament. We anticipate a
total capacity of ~30 teams at each event. We anticipate holding 4 spaces at the
Southern tournament for the highest scoring teams from the Castine event.
NEW: (September 27, 2005)
The top 4 teams from the November 19th tournament (Castine) will be invited to
participate at the Southern Tournament. While these teams cannot win any trophies
at the second tournament (according to FIRST regulations) they can compete for the
top slot to go on to the International Tournament in April. All children will also receive
the participation medallions. Only one team from Maine will be invited to the Atlanta
Georgia event and it will be the highest total score at the Southern tournament. We
considered several alternatives, but with a 3 week difference between the two
tournaments we anticipated a significant deficit for the teams participating in Castine.
We recognize that these teams will have had the opportunity to participate in an
additional event but cannot come up with a solution that is 100% fair all the way
around. Teams from Castine are not required to participate in the Southern
tournament, but then they would not be eligible for the International Tournament in
Atlanta.
