Tom's Suspension Bridge (2009)

Picture
This bridge was created using 7 arch sections on each side with a deck supported by the arch frame at each end and the suspension wires in the middle. Total building time was probably around 30 hours. Once the individual arch sections where designed they were easy to copy (14 in total). Then the bridge deck was built (without the deck plating) and the underlying supports added and suspended to the bridge. Finally adjustments were added (plate thicknesses) to make the deck come out even and the deck plating and dividers were added.

The entire bridge can be lifted by the top center span (gently) or by holding the two center top spans on the sides. The bridge deck is 176 knobs x 32 knobs (56" long x 10.25" wide)
