Summer Camp: Can It Make Kids More Responsible? Read more:

Interesting article by Erika Christakis at Time.com about the impact of working as a summer camp counselor makes kids more responsible.  We always try to have some high school students working for us during the summer, I think we had 6 of them this summer, spread all over the state.  What a great way for them to learn some of those adult skills we always want them to have.

Maine FIRST LEGO League Championship Event Registration is Now Open!

10/4/2012

Teams that registered nationally for the FIRST LEGO League may now register for the Maine FLL event, the Maine FIRST LEGO League Championship. If you registered your team nationally you should have received an email from us yesterday with instructions on how to register online. If you did not receive an email from us about state registration you can contact us at bgoff@mainerobotics.org.

Alternativly you can register by printing off the Maine FLL Event registration form that can be found on our FLL page and mailing it to us at:

Maine Robotics
167 Bennoch Road
Orono, ME 04473

State registration is $150 per a team and can be paid for either online or by mailing a check to the above address. If you have any questions just shoot us an email or call our office at (207)866-4340. We look forward to seeing you all in September.

National FIRST LEGO League Registration is CLOSED

9/24/2012

Last week it looked like registration would maybe last until the 9/30 cutoff date.  This morning we got an email from FIRST to say that they had a LOT of registrations come in over the weekend and it looked like they would be ending registration on Tuesday morning.

We moved as fast as we could to let you all know about moving ASAP to get registered... but... National registration closed around 3:00 pm today.

That said, not all hope is lost.  If you still want to have a team there are some options:
  • Don't need a field setup kit?  No problem we can get you registered
  • Need a field setup kit? We may be able to lend you one of the competition field setup kits if you PROMISE to take good care of it.
  • Eligible for the Time Warner Cable New Team Grant? We may be able to get you in.

But no matter which, you need to call us or email ASAP to see what we can do.  I don't use ASAP much, but this is one of those cases.  We normally pick up 10-15 registrations in the last week and we lost almost 6-1/2 days this year.  It has happened in the past, but never this early that I can remember.

NOTE:  Maine Championship registration still starts 10/1/2012 and all team coaches will be notified of the registration process, probably this weekend.  It is non-competitive so we have space for ALL Maine teams.

FIRST LEGO League National Registration closing Tuesday 9/25

USFIRST informed every one today that the National registration would be complete no later than Tuesday morning, September 25th.  This is a full five days early!  So if you need to register do so NOW.

Maine currently has 66 teams registered in Maine (same as last year) and we were expecting at least 75 teams this year, but we typically have over 10 teams register in the last week... and now it looks like that won't be happening.  So please let anyone who might still be looking to register with USFIRST to participate in the FLL this year to hurry it up.

REGISTER HERE for the national registration.
All teams registered nationally are then eligible to participate in Maine.
Any questions, give us a call or email.
